Workers Stage Peaceful Protest In Katsina

Socio-economic activities at the heart Katsina metropolis were yesterday disrupted for hours as workers in Katsina state took to the streets over two Nasarawa State workers killed by suspected security operatives during a recent solidarity protest organized by national leadersof the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Nasarawa.

Before converging on the popular Kangiwa Square near the palace of the Emir of Katsina on Tuesday, hundreds of workers from across the state staged the peaceful protest which caused traffic gridlock in some streets.

Addressing the aggrieved workers, Katsina State NLC chairman, Comrade Tanimu Saulawa, condemned the killings in strong term and urged the Nasarawa State Government to set up a panel of inquiry to unearth those responsible for the cold blooded murder of the innocent workers.

Saulawa maintained that the NLC would vehemently resist the cutting of workers’ salaries in Nasarawa or any state in the country while calling Governor Al-Makura of Nasarawa to take urgent steps to ease the hardship of the family of the slain workers
