Boko Haram: MAUTECH, Army To Organise Conference On Peace, Reconstruction

Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH) Yola is to host a regional conference on peace building and reconstruction in the Chad Basin.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Kyari Mohammed made this known in Yola while briefing newsmen on preparations for the 21st and 22nd convocation ceremony of the university coming up on Saturday.

Mohammed said that as a university in one of the areas affected by the Boko Haram insurgency, MAUTECH wanted to use its expertise in peace building and conflict management in bringing succour to the region.

“Following the successes recorded by our gallant security forces in the liberation of most of the occupied territories from Boko Haram insurgents; we have decided to partner with the Nigerian Army Resource Centre to host a regional conference with the theme ‘, Peace Building and Reconstruction in the Chad Basin”.

Mohammed said that the conference which was scheduled to hold from September 26 to 28 would attract resource persons from Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger and Chad.

He said the conference would be declared open by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo while former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar would be the keynote speaker.

“Other prominent speakers include Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Abdurrahman Dambazzau (rtd), Minister of Interior, Emeritus Professor Anthony Asiwaju, Prof. Eghosa Osaghae, and Prof. Okey Ibeanu all from Nigeria.From our neighbouring countries are Prof. Issa Saibou and Babette Koulchomi from the University de Maroua in Cameroon, Prof. Zakariya Ousmanou and Attem Doutoum from Chad as well as Prof. Hadiza Kiari-Fougo fromNiger,” Kyari said.

He said that during the conference, the university would use the opportunity to inaugurate some of its projects including hostels.
