Insecurity: Bauchi CP, Stakeholders Meet Over Rising Criminal Activities

In order to curtail rising cases of Kidnappings, armed banditry and cattle rustling, the Bauchi State Police Command has met with traditional rulers, care taker committee Chairmen, representatives of Police Community Relations committee (PCRC) and discussed modalities on how best to curtail therising trend of kidnappings in some local government areas. Representatives of Vigilante group, Danga Security, hunters, clerics, NURTW and leadership of Myetti Allah cattle breeders from Seven local government areas comprising of Toro, Bauchi, Ningi, Ganjuwa, Alkaleri, Tafawa Balewa and Darazo discussed Security issues affecting the Councils. Speaking during the meeting, the Commissioner of Police CP Halliru A. Gwandu thanked the stakeholders for honouring his invitation in order to find lasting solutions to the problems bedeviling the State at the moment.He identified three major challenges such as difficult terrain, scattered settlements and poorcommunication network in some areas as stumbling blocks affecting Police operations. The CP also urged them to set up a joint Policevigilante groups in their respective areas in order to identity and arrest hoodlums and nightmarauders but warned against implicating innocent persons based on sentiment or perceived rivalry. Furthermore, the CP re assured them that the command is fully committed to providing safe and secure environment for all citizens and urged them not to relent in providing useful information that may assist in protection of lives and property in the State. Those in attendance include Local Care taker Chairmen of Seven local government areas, District Heads and Deputy National Chairman of PCRC Alhaji Sanusi Maijama’a. The Stakeholders commended the CP for organizing such a timely occasion and assured him of their maximum support towards promoting safety and security in the State. They identified lack of logistics, harbouring settlers without scrutiny by some village and District Heads, moral decadence and drug abuse as some of the major predisposing factors responsible for high rate of crime in the State and lamented the involvement of their kiths and kins in both kidnappings and cattle rustling. The forum assured the commissioner of Police of their willingness to support the Police in discharging their duties of protecting lives and property in the State.
