Don’t Announce Tai Council Election, Nwogu Tells INEC

Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Rivers South East se Candidate ofthe People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Rivers South East senatorial district, Senator Olaka Johnson Nwogu has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to announce the result of the March 19 rerun election in Tai local government area of Rivers State. Nwogu, who made the call while speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, said having cancelled the election in Tai local government area that it would be unwise to go ahead and announce it. He stated that his political party was shocked when the Commission`s head of election operations disclosed this at a stakeholders meeting in the state that the result would be announced. The PDP senatorial hopeful said, “We are aware that on Election Day, INEC cancelled theelection held in the Local Government but surprisingly, a month after, INEC set up a committee and said that they have seen the results of the Local Government. ”Nwogu, who stated that it would be unfair if thecommission goes ahead to announce the result because Tai was among the eight local government areas whose results were cancelled on May 19, said the PDP want the commission to conduct another election in the local government area to allow the people choose their candidate.
